“Instead of being bedridden and in pain, I am able to live an active healthy life”

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

I have had Multiple Sclerosis, Lupus and hypothyroidism for over 20 years. Although I had been doing fairly well, I had a severe MS flare in January 2009 that caused me to lose 6 weeks of work. I saw several conventional doctors, but my condition continued to worsen. I found Dr. Nigh through an internet search. I felt confident from my first visit because Dr. Nigh’s approach was so rational. Instead of stuffing me with pills, he ran more sensitive blood tests than I had ever had. He also suggested an elimination diet since MS patients often have “leaky gut” due to severe food allergies. I had been seeing doctors for thyroid medication for 35 years, but Dr. Nigh was the first to discover I had Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. This finally explained the extreme shifts in weight I had regularly experienced. Acupuncture and supplements slowed my symptoms. Once we had discovered the foods I was allergic to and eliminated them, my health rapidly improved. I’ve lost over 50 pounds, but more importantly, my thyroid is stable for the first time. Instead of being bedridden and in pain, I am able to live an active healthy life. I don’t think any of these dramatic improvements would be possible without Dr. Nigh’s expert assistance. In my opinion, he lives the Hippocratic Oath.

Ginkgo and MS

Sunday, May 1st, 2005

Diseases of the nervous system are dramatically on the increase. Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, multiple sclerosis and others have been increasingly prevalent for the past decade, and the rise shows no signs of slowing.Unfortunately, there are essentially no therapies available to effectively halt or reverse the progre, ssion of these conditions.

A new study conducted at by the Department of Neurology at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) offers an encouraging treatment for at least one aspect of multiple sclerosis.

The small study compared the mental acuity of MS patients who were taking the herb ginkgo biloba with other MS patients who were taking no ginkgo. The finding was that the group taking ginkgo scored significantly better in testing. The difference between the two groups was described by the lead researcher as “comparable to differences in scores between healthy people ages 30 to 39 and those ages 50 to 59.” (more…)

Hepatitis Vaccination Risk

Saturday, September 18th, 2004

According to a recent study published in the journal Neurology, there is yet another disease risk resulting from a vaccination.

In a review of almost 2000 patients between 1993 and 2000, it was discovered that receiving a hepatitis B virus (HBV) vaccination increased the risk of developing multiple sclerosis (MS) by over 300%. The disease was found to begin within 3 years of the vaccination.

The authors of the study note that they could not tell if the vaccination actually caused the disease, or if it simply hastened the onset of the disease in individuals already bound to get it in the future.

It is interesting to note that, in 1996, the French government suspended the use of the HBV vaccination in pre-adolescent children after finding that over 200 cases of MS and other neurological diseases occurred in children receiving the vaccination. (more…)
