Our Fall Cleanse Group – Detox before the Holidays!

Tuesday, October 4th, 2011

Come and learn about our fabulous Cleanse and Elimination Diet Group Program at our Orientation Meeting this Thursday – Oct 6th – at 6pm here at Nature Cures Clinic.

This is a great opportunity to learn all about the benefits of cleansing before making a commitment. Our program includes products, support meetings, a shopping trip, acupuncture treatments for detox, exercise program for detox, daily support emails, tips and strategies for success – and lots of laughter!

One of the best practices you can do for your health is to get into the habit of detoxing the liver twice a year. We encourage our patients here at the clinic to look at cleansing as a maintenance program similar to exercise and other beneficial habits. The environment we live in with the multitude of chemicals and toxins we take in everyday coupled with diets that often swerve off track and create additional burden on the liver and gut – not to mention the stress we deal with that heaps on even more burden to our poor bodies! – all of these things combine to create weight gain, fatigue, aches and pains and poor sleep. Yikes! We all need a little help keeping everything in balance.

To learn more – call me at 503-287-4970 to get your questions answered or to let me know you’re coming. Remember – the holidays are coming….it’s time to detox before you retox!

Love,

Maria

Food Allergies and Food Reactions

Monday, October 4th, 2004

According to the European Food Information Council, about 20% of individuals surveyed believe that they have food allergies. However, they say that when tested, only about 1 to 2% of them actually do have allergies. There is a problem with this data, though. It is a problem that has to do with the use of the word “allergy.”

A food allergy is a specific type of immune reaction to food. In other words, if someone allergic to wheat accidentally eats a product with wheat in it, their body will form antibodies against the wheat. This immune reaction goes on to produce symptoms, which can range from digestive upset to fatigue.

However, it is entirely possible that people react to foods in ways that are not described by the term “allergy.” The most obvious example is a food intolerance, like lactose intolerance. This is not an allergic reaction to lactose, yet the individual definitely experiences unpleasant symptoms when they ingest milk. (more…)

The Wrong Way to Treat Allergies

Friday, August 13th, 2004

As many as 25% of people worldwide suffer from allergies of some kind. In fact, treatment for seasonal allergies – sometimes very intense – is one of the most common symptoms that lead people to visit Nature Cures Clinic.

A team of Austrian scientists publishing in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences thinks they have found a promising treatment: a genetically engineered vaccination. Based upon results in a limited trial in three countries, the team believes that their vaccination causes the body to form “a kind of barrier of antibodies” that prevent the allergic reaction.

This approach highlights a fundamental difference between how conventional and naturopathic medicine view disease. These researchers describe their vaccine as a tool to suppress a specific branch of the immune system that leads to the symptoms of allergies. By contrast, a naturopathic physician works to understand why the allergies are happening. (more…)
