Dr. Hilary Costello

Dr. Hilary Costello is a primary care naturopathic doctor licensed in the state of Oregon. Dr. Costello received her Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine from the National College of Natural Medicine (NCNM) in Portland, Oregon. During her six years of medical school at NCNM, she completed the Natural Childbirth/Obstetrics program and advanced training in botanical medicine and minor surgery.

She was born and raised in Los Angeles, California and moved to New York at 17 to study biology and fine arts painting at Sarah Lawrence College, where she received her B.A. in Liberal Arts in 1998.

Dr. Costello’s specialties include minor surgery, holistic dermatology, pediatrics, classical homeopathy and botanical medicine. Dr. Costello performs extensive in-office skin surgeries, including radiosurgery procedures, aesthetic procedures, and biopsy/removal of skin growths including skin cancers. Dr. Costello holds group detoxification and purification programs several times a year and designs individualized programs for children and adults.

Dr. Costello cares for children and newborns beginning at 3 weeks, and addresses health and wellness for all of the members of the family, including the elders in the community. Primary care, women’s health, endocrinology, and gastrointestinal health are the cornerstones of her practice. Her goal is to provide the foundation for leading a healthy life through ongoing wellness and longevity protocols that include proper nourishment for the body and spirit. Her practice honors the principles of naturopathic medicine and utilizes the healing power of nature.

Humanitarian work is a key aspect of why Dr. Costello chose to become a doctor. She is the founder and president of Culture Medicine, a nonprofit organization designed to provide naturopathic medical clinics and health education to international and local communities. Culture Medicine is currently involved with healthcare centers in Jamaica and Ethiopia. She serves on the board of African Birth Collective, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing birth services to women in Senegal, West Africa. Dr. Costello is also a mentor for adolescent girls in a coming-of-age rite of passage program in the Portland area. Organic gardening, traditional foods nutrition, medicinal skin care formulation, and botanical/medical illustration are additional areas of interest.

As the mother of three beautiful daughters born safely at home and a happily married wife of ten years, Dr. Costello understands the importance of keeping all members of the family healthy and strong. Quality, relationship-based effective healthcare is the goal of Dr. Costello’s practice in Portland and represents her dedication to reforming how we experience health care in our communities.
