Naturopathic Cancer Care Support Group

Hosted by Nature Cures Clinic

At Nature Cures Clinic we believe that the successful treatment of cancer involves a comprehensive program to optimize all aspects of a patient’s potential for recovery.  We recognize the importance of a vital immune system, an individualized dietary program, targeted supplementation, physical activity, emotional support and a wide range of other components in order to maximize an individual’s positive outcome.

Our goal is to actively engage patients in the treatment process, maximize every potential for health and well-being and bring an enhanced quality of life to every individual engaged in this journey. In addition to medical therapies we believe in the healing power of the shared experience.

hugsOur Cancer Care Support Group is centered on empowering the patient with the best information possible on the value of integrated therapies.  Guest speakers who are experts in the various aspects of healing – from the side effects of treatment to stress management – will deliver lectures and workshops in an informal, comfortable setting.  Time to share and socialize with others is built into the monthly program so that each person has a chance to listen and be listened to.

The NCC Cancer Care support Group will meet the fourth Wednesday of each month from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm starting in January 2011.

We will meet at the Mark Spencer Hotel at 409 SW 11th Street in downtown Portland.  There will be a series of six presentations over a 6 month period.  The schedule is as follows:

January 26 – Topic: What is Naturopathic Cancer Care? A discussion on the integrated use of conventional and alternative treatments for optimizing outcomes and supporting the whole being. Presented by Dr. Greg Nigh

February 23 – Topic: Every Bite Counts – A presentation of the importance of how we eat before, during and after treatments. Shopping list and recipe booklet provided.  Presented by Dr. Greg Nigh and Maria Zilka, Nutritional Therapist.

March 23 – Topic: Treatment Side Effects – Information on what to expect during treatment, methods to minimize discomfort and how to maintain wellness throughout your program.  Presented by Dr. Greg Nigh.

June 22 – Topic: Coping with Fatigue, Grief and Depression – Every cancer patient is going to experience one or all of these emotions during treatment.  This presentation will focus on understanding, sympathy, acceptance and endurance to help each patient discover their own path to healing.
