In a European study involving 485, 044 men, the men who followed the Mediterranean diet were 33 percent less likely to develop gastric cancer than the men who didn’t follow the diet.

St. John’s wort may cool hot flashes

In a study including 100 menopausal women, the group given St. John’s Wort had significantly fewer hot flashes at the end of the eight week study than the group who received the placebo.  The herb also appeared to lessen the duration and severity of the hot flashes.

Multigene Test Helping Breast Cancer Patients Avoid Chemotherapy

A new genetic test is allowing doctors to know whether their patient’s cancer is more or less likely to respond to chemotherapy.  Out of 89 breast cancer patients that received the test, doctors changed treatment decisions for 28 patients, 24 patients changed their own treatment decisions, including nine who decided to stop chemotherapy completely.

New Approach To Fighting Alzheimer’s Shows Potential In Clinical Trial

In a clinical trial involving 225 Alzheimer’s patients, a group of patients were given a natural cocktail containing B vitamins, phosopholipids and antioxidants.  The patients who received the cocktail showed a significant improvement in verbal memory skills compared to the placebo group.  These nutrients are believed to contribute to the formation of synapses, connections that are damaged in the progression of the disease.
