Dr. Andy Swanson   PDF  Print  E-mail
Wednesday, 15 February 2006
Dr. Swanson is Nature Cures Clinic's first Family Practice Medical Resident. He attended the National College of Naturopathic Medicine in Portland, Oregon, where he completed requirements for licensure as a Naturopathic Physician and Classical Chinese Medicine practitioner. He brings a deep understanding of the Chinese culture, enhanced through extensive travel in China and six years of study in the ancient Chinese tradition of Qi Gong. Similar to Tai Chi, the movements of Qi Gong are designed to balance the body, mind, and spirit to increase energy and compassion for life. These movements, together with acupuncture and naturopathic medical techniques, offer many options to help your healing process.

Dr. Swanson’s clinical practice includes significant experience with Cancer care. He participated in the first Chinese and Naturopathic Cancer Care Program in the country, working alongside cancer-care specialists Barbara MacDonald, ND, and Dr. Kou, LAc. He integrates a wide variety of techniques towards the management of Cancer, including acupuncture, guided imagery, nutrition, and botanical medicine.

In addition, Dr. Swanson brings cutting edge knowledge of Naturopathic and Chinese medical approaches for the brain, acquired from his 2005 thesis paper on traumatic brain injury. He has a special interest in Neurofeedback, using EEG and other Biofeedback techniques to balance brain signaling with the body. This approach is excellent for conditions such as depression, TBI, post-stroke recovery, anxiety, insomnia, migraines, and other nervous system related disorders. Together with Dr. Eckel, Nature Cures clinic now offers Neurofeedback for the Portland community.

To add to Dr. Swanson’s multicultural perspective, he is familiar with the traditions of Yaqui herbal medicine, which he learned from his apprenticeship with a native American elder in Mexico. He honors his relationship with medicinal plants and their important role in the healing process. His fluency in Spanish makes him our first bilingual doctor at Nature Cures Clinic.
